Project Brief:
Create a small publication and poster that draws attention to an indigenous plant garden in UTS. The goal should be to spread awareness to students who may not know where and why it is there. Take into consideration the indigenous aspect of the garden and how you can communicate that respectfully.
This project was an exercise in connecting deeply and sensitively with a location. As a non-indigenous person creating something for an indigenous garden, I had to approach it responsibly. I made sure to create my design around my personal experience of the garden, taking nothing from indigenous culture or practices that aren’t mine. I created a poster and booklet to showcase the calming qualities of the space, drawing inspiration from the plants and colours of the garden. Pairing text with material play that was informed by the space.
